Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatments Raleigh:
Is Surgery Effective?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve, located in the wrist, becomes inflamed or compressed due to repetitive use. Symptoms include tingling, numbness and pain in the affected hand and arm, which can significantly limit one’s ability to function on a daily basis.

Thankfully, most carpal tunnel cases can be successfully treated with conservative methods such as physical therapy, splinting and medications. However, there are times where surgery may be the best option for treating severe or chronic cases. Surgery for carpal tunnel involves releasing the pressure on the median nerve by cutting through part of ligament that holds it in place in the wrist. Studies have shown that this procedure is effective at alleviating symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Furthermore, up to 90% of patients report an immediate resolution of their symptoms after undergoing surgery. Although it doesn't provide a complete cure, surgery has been found to be an effective treatment for those who suffer from severe and/or chronic cases of carpal tunnel syndrome.
